Jeff Bates - The Voice Of TnSRO

Jeff Bates joined the Tennessee School Resource Officers Association in June 2007 as the voice of TnSRO. Jeff has an amazing testimonial that moves everyone of all ages. Jeff’s life wasn’t an easy life. He grew up poor in Mississippi in a share cropper’s family who adopted him and later went on to have eight children of their own. Jeff grew up singing gospel songs with his mother sitting on the front porch waiting for his father to come home. Jeff Bates has an amazing voice that has been compared to Conway Twitty. His astonishing voice and dogged work ethic helped him make his way up through honky-tonks and finally to Nashville. Along the way Jeff became addicted to meth and starting stealing from his friends to support his drug habit and finally landed himself in jail.

For Jeff, jail was the low point—and the turning point. About a week into his three-month stint in lockup, with the poison finally out of his system, he came to a life-altering understanding. Jeff says, "All of a sudden, I'm thinking clear enough to realize that I've hurt everybody I love," he says. "I got on the phone and started calling people that I'd taken things from, that I'd hurt, that I'd lied to and cheated”. During his time behind bars, he decided to ask everyone for forgiveness and turn his life around.
The next day, he found out that Gene Watson had recorded two of his songs and that Tracy Lawrence had recorded a song Bates wrote with Kenny Beard, called "What a Memory." Doors indeed started opening for the now clean-and-sober Jeff. He scored an audition with RCA Records in 2002—and just as it had when he was 17, Jeff's astonishing vocal power made a deep impression on those listening.

Today Jeff reaches out to those in need of inspiration or help. He wants to win this fight against the most addictive drug on the streets, METH.
